– By #Annette Hill
Meet one of our 2022 AHEC Scholars! This month we are excited to feature Megan Major, a biomedical engineering student at SD Mines.Megan Major - SD Mines biomedical engineering student
My name is Megan Major and I am currently a senior at South Dakota School of Mines pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering. My goal is to become a researcher working on clinical trials for medical devices. I was born and raised in Minot, North Dakota and moved to Rapid City to pursue my education. In Minot I have a twin brother, a younger sister, and a younger brother. My little sister was born with Down Syndrome, which inspired me to work in the healthcare field.
When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time with friends, riding my bike, and going to the lake. This summer I am doing research at the school of Mines looking at microbes harvested from hot springs in Yellowstone and the Sanford Underground Research Lab to determine if they have medicinal properties. WRAHEC has helped me explore a variety of career paths and understand how individual backgrounds and upbringings can influence health.
