Meet one of our 2023 AHEC Scholars! This month we are excited to feature Sara Weber, an RN student at Western Dakota Technical College.
Sara Weber - WDT RN student
My name is Sara Weber. I have been a stay-at-home mom for many years. As my boys grew, I knew that it was time to find a new way to care for people. I initially went back to school to become a massage therapist and ran a successful business for several years. While I love helping people feel better, my body was not holding up to the physical workload massage demands. After much consideration, I began my journey to become a nurse.
I graduated with my LPN from Western Dakota Tech in May of 2021. I worked for one year at Black Hills Children’s Home. I then decided to go back to school to obtain my RN so that I would have more diverse opportunities available. I also hope that having my RN will allow me to advocate for patient care on a whole new level.
AHEC Scholars program has already made a big impact on me. First, with a scholarship which helps me to continue my education and not be a financial burden to my family in this pursuit. Second, I am already seeing the opportunities and connections we will make as a cohort in the community will be both educational and life-changing. Lastly, being out of the workforce for so long leaves many gaps in my resume. Being able to add AHEC Scholars will be very beneficial.
