Anna Jealous Of Him
South Dakota State University
My name is Anna Jealous Of Him. I’m an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe. I was born and raised on the Pine Ridge Reservation. I’m currently attending South Dakota State University College of Nursing in Rapid City, South Dakota. Becoming a West River AHEC Scholar is an exciting opportunity and I’m honored to be a part of it. I truly aspire to be a positive attribute to my community. Growing up in an underserved population I came to find myself beating the odds. With perseverance and resilience attributed to the adversaries I overcome. Influencing my career goals of wanting to help break social barriers and to help build a stronger community. My time outside of school is spent with my family, hiking, fishing, and cooking. Being outdoors is the best therapeutic outlet and it is something we enjoy as a family. I also enjoy coffee, tea, books, writing and poetry.
We are excited to have Anna as an AHEC Scholar and proud of the accomplishments she is making as a future nurse! She was just named the student of the month for SDSU Nursing-Rapid City. The AHEC Scholars program is designed for college-level health profession students interested in supplementing their education by gaining relevant knowledge and experiences in rural and/or underserved areas of SD. Program activities cover the following six Core Topics: Interprofessional Education, Behavioral Health Integration, Social Determinants of Health, Cultural Competency, Practice Transformation, and Current and Emerging Health Issues.
